At the end of the day, Battlefield would benefit on giving the battle royale genre another shot. Assuming the support structure is there, plenty of lasting content is planned, and there's enough care put into the battle royale's beginning days, then there's no reason a Battlefield battle royale can't succeed or carve its own niche in the genre. Hopefully Firestorm and Battlefield V doesn't discourage DICE from giving the evergreen shooter genre another
After DICE ended support for Star Wars: Battlefront 2 at around the same time as Battlefield 5 , a majority of their resources can now be spent on the first next-gen game in the standout FPS series. That last part might not appeal much to Battlefield fans, not after Battlefield 5 failed to introduce battle royale to the series with its Firestorm mode. Numerous issues, including a slow pace and a bad loot system, resulted in Firestorm being largely dismissed as one of the worst battle royale games out there. Of course, with battle royale being much more prominent now than when BF5 first dropped, there’s always hope that DICE has taken Firestorm’s failure to heart and is focusing more on improving Battlefield ’s battle royale experie
