With players having to juggle a multitude of relationships and the gang's well-being throughout the game, director Sam Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch is most likely the film that will have some of the largest thematic ties to Red Dead Redemption 2 . The plot of the film will likely sound familiar to Red Dead fans, as The Wild Bunch focuses on a gang of outlaws around 1913 led by the aging Pike Bishop (William Holden), who is seeking one final score in a massive train robbery.

Red Dead Redemption is simply one of the best games available for the seventh generation consoles. It did receive a zombie-themed expansion pack called Undead Nightmare, which was a fun novelty but didn't resonate the same way the base game did. The Grand Theft Auto San Andreas Bigfoot reference was rather humorous, though. It clearly uses the Grand Theft Auto games as a template but ends up finding its own identity through the setting, characters and storytelling. Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the most highly anticipated games of 2018, and with the quality of its predecessor, it has big boots to fill.

While Red Dead Redemption 2 is clearly a game that we think highly of here at DualShockers , it's not one that is infallible by any means. In fact, since its release this past Friday, the most common complaint that I have heard not only from some of my friends but fellow writers here at DualShockers is that Red Dead Redemption 2 is far too slow and plodding. Even after getting past the game's initial opening hours and having the world start to open up, traveling from one location to another takes far too long, animations are too slow, and there's not the typical intuitiveness that streamlines many of the systems and mechanics that you might find in other open world games strategy-world games.

For those unaware, Red Dead Redemption 2 takes place in 1899. I say that to make it clear, as if it wasn't clear enough already, that phones do not exist in this period. That means you can't take selfies like a millennial. Well, Rockstar found a way to work around that. You can get a camera from the first Stranger mission that appears in Valentine. As one of the most anticipated game releases of the fall -- if not the most anticipated -- Red Dead Redemption 2 has come a long way from when we first heard that Rockstar Games would be returning to the epic Western world it crafted with the previous game in 2010. From what we've seen so far of the game, Red Dead Redemption 2 's depiction of the Wild West will look even more detailed and expertly crafted in the eight years since we last saw it, and the unique beauty of its setting will (seemingly) come to life like never before.

The name of the film alone should instantly bring to your mind the iconic score from Ennio Morricone, but The Good, the Bad, and The Ugly rightfully deserves its place among the best of the Western genre, and the defining example of the "Spaghetti Westerns" that Red Dead Redemption holds so many visuals and thematic influences from.

There’s basically no good version, of the two options, for fast travel in the game. Here is what they give you. Right off the bat once you enter the first town, Valentine, you can take a taxi coach to other towns and big landmarks that you have visited. For a fee, of course. You can eventually upgrade your camp so you can fast travel from there, but that's all. It makes tackling the side activities needlessly tedious more so than a lot of them, like hunting, already are. If The Proposition ends up catching your eye, a neat tidbit about its director, John Hillcoat, is the fact that he created a machinima short film with Rockstar Games in the buildup to releasing Red Redemption in 2010, which was called Red Dead Redemption: The Man from Blackwater . The short film itself was created entirely inside the engine of Red Dead Redemption and was aired on FOX around the time of the game's release - the full movie is still available for viewing here (via Dagger 323 on YouTube).

There is a lot to discover in Red Dead Redemption 2 , and this is a game that is meant to be taken in slowly. The game's opening (purposefully) takes a bit of a slower pace than some might expect, and a vast amount of that is intentional to allow you to take in the various mechanics and abilities at your disposal when interacting and exploring this world.
