About Me
A trip to Ollivanders, or similar facilities in locations like Hogsmeade , will no doubt be where students will be picking up their wands. The wand, of course, chooses the wizard, but it would be even better if the gamer could forge their own magical i
There are dozens of characters and storylines that could develop and stem from J.K. Rowling's existing lore from the wizarding world, but it is too soon to have a more specific prognostic of which of these characters will make it into Hogwarts legacy news Legacy . Even outside of the realm of Hogwarts students and staff, there are a number of characters that could be used for some engaging side stories, such as Sir Herbert Vaney - a London vampire with a Jack-The-Ripper vibe - or Violet Tilliman, a witch who disappeared for twenty years after an accident using floo powder to go home. Elias Grimstone, the famous broomstick-maker of the late 1800s, could also be used to introduce some new gameplay features for Quidditch, such as giving players the possibility of acquiring Brimstone's Oakshaft 79 broomstick as the era equivalent to the more modern Nimbus 2000 or the Fireb
Reports have emerged today that the upcoming Harry Potter RPG Hogwarts Legacy will include a trans-inclusive character creator . Usually, when I hear that a video game is going to be trans-inclusive, my first thought is "oh that’s good, I hope they don’t mess it up." With Hogwarts Legacy, it’s a lot more complicated than that. Harry Potter as a franchise - and this game in particular - has a lot of red in the ledger when it comes to trans inclusivity. Not only is there JK Rowling’s history of transphobia to consider, there’s also the fact that the game’s lead designer Troy Leavitt used to run a GamerGate-adjacent, anti-SJW YouTube channel. It would be disingenuous to suggest that Hogwarts Legacy is building off a blank slate when it comes to including trans charact
Animals are a large part of everyday life in the Wizarding World. Often useful as part of the curriculum at Hogwarts, animals have very different abilities. It seems only logical that players should be able to choose the pet they have by their s
If Hogwarts Legacy takes place in the early 1800s, there are several Hogwarts students that players could encounter that won't be completely new. Alberic Grunnion, for example, who prominently featured on a Chocolate Frog card mentioned in Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone , was born in 1803 and attended Hogwarts from 1814 to 1821. Grunnion was the nineteenth-century wizard that invented the Dungbomb, a magical stink bomb that prominently features in the books and films as one of the 'Weasley & Weasley' shop produ
I know the devs are working hard. I know a lot of them are very good people. But this is true of literally every game. All devs work hard. Unless you buy every video game released each year to show how much you love video game developers, sympathy for the devs just doesn’t wash as a rea
While it may have been critically panned, the video game adaptation of Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 did bring a few new ideas into the gameplay mechanics of the series. The dueling, for instance, was the best it had ever b
Diving into a good RPG for a gamer is much like committing oneself to a good book. The idea is for players to lose themselves in these deep worlds of fantasy, science fiction, and even the modern-day. Perhaps more than any other genre, the RPG features deep and meaningful worlds with characters that can become personal to the pla
Cyberpunk 2077 is easily the biggest game to push a transgender character creator to the forefront, and I’ll be returning to that in time, but first I think there’s a big question to be asked: does Hogwarts Legacy’s trans inclusive character creator make any difference? My answer is a rather blunt ‘no
The characters players will encounter at Hogwarts won't be limited to other students, however. The school headmaster and different teachers will likely have important roles, and one of the characters that is likely to appear is Phineas Nigellus Black. In the Harry Potter series, the portrait of Phineas Black actually plays an important role, so it would be nice to see that referenced in some way in Hogwarts Legacy. Phineas could be included in the game as both a teacher or in his later role as Headmaster of Hogwarts, both positions which he loathed. Later in the series, fans see another portrait of him at Grimmauld Place. During Harry, Ron, and Hermione's quest to find the Horcruxes, Hermione keeps his portrait in her beaded bag to avoid him telling Snape of their whereabouts. Phineas went down in history as the most hated Hogwarts headmaster, and players could experience a very different character from the gentle and wise Dumbledore they might remember from the books and films. Phineas as a character would likely be more similar to experiencing caretaker Argus Filch as a headmas
